Multi-service impact in Switzerland North

Impact Statement:Β Starting at 23:54 UTC on 26 September 2025, customers in Switzerland North may experience service unavailability or degraded performances for resources hosted in the region. Virtual Machines may have shutdown to preserve data integrity.Β

Current Status:Β We were alerted to this issue by our telemetry informing us in a significant drop in traffic. It was discovered that a recent deployment introduced a malformed prefix in one of the certificates used for connection authorization. We have pinpointed the deployment error involving the certificate prefix and are rolling back the faulty deployment to restore normal traffic flow and service availability.

Majority of the impacted services have been fully recovered, and a subset are nearing completion. We continue to monitor traffic and service stability to ensure full recovery.

Increased network latency on traffic routes through the Middle East

Starting at 05:45 UTC on 06 September 2025, network traffic traversing through the Middle East may experience increased latency due to undersea fiber cuts in the Red Sea. Network traffic continues to not be interrupted as Microsoft has rerouted traffic through alternate network paths. We do expect higher latency on some traffic that previously traversed through the Middle East until the undersea fiber cuts are fully addressed. Network traffic that does not traverse through the Middle East is not impacted.Β We will not have a complete return to typical latencies through the Middle East in the near term, as this is the expected state until repairs can be made in the Red Sea over the coming weeks. Our engineers continue to work in parallel on other methods to optimize latency. With several days of stable operations now, we will remove this awareness banner from the Azure Status page on 10 September 2025 and continue further communications via Azure Service Health.

Resolved: Mistaken Block of Proton Drive by Belgian Authorities

Jun 23, 12:44 CEST
Resolved - This incident is fully resolved now. The Belgian authorities had erroneously blocked the Proton Drive domain due to an implementation error while attempting to block a specific URL.

As soon as we identified the issue, our team engaged with the relevant authorities, including Belgian CERT and the Federal Police, to clarify the error. Through constructive dialogue, we demonstrated that the block should have been limited to the specific URL in question, not our entire service.

As a result, access to Proton Drive was fully restored over the weekend. We also worked with the authorities to help implement corrected procedures, ensuring that any future enforcement actions target only specific content, not entire domains.

This incident highlights the importance of precise implementation when authorities need to take action against specific content. We're proud to have played a role in improving safeguards going forward to protect the privacy and access rights of our users. We appreciate the professionalism shown by Belgian authorities in working with us to resolve this matter quickly and appropriately.

Jun 21, 13:17 CEST
Identified - We are currently investigating a reachability issue affecting Proton Drive in Belgium, specifically when using Telnet or Proximus internet service providers. Our engineering teams are actively working to identify the root cause and are in contact with both ISPs to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, access to Proton Drive can be restored by using Proton VPN. All other Proton services remain fully operational and unaffected.
We will provide further updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
