I tested the five best speed camera detection systems for drivers — here's the one I'd buy with my own money

Speeding fines are rising and automated enforcement is everywhere. According to DVLA data, the number of UK drivers receiving penalty points for breaking speed limits increased by 32% between 2022 and 2025, while road safety charity IAM RoadSmart says fines and penalty points are now at a four-year high.

It is a similar story in US, where automated speed cameras are gaining momentum thanks to a growing number of states permitting the use of cutting-edge camera tech.

Modern cars increasingly feature built-in speed camera alerts, but plenty of older vehicles don't. That's where a growing number of dedicated speed camera detection devices step in, using smartphone connectivity, community reporting and extensive camera databases to keep drivers informed.

Questions of legality vary wildly in the US and you'll struggle to find the devices listed below on sale anywhere, but all of those tested are available to purchase and are perfectly fine to use in the UK and much of Europe.

I've spent the past month putting the most popular options through their paces to find out which deserves a place on your dashboard.

1. Ooono Co-Driver NO2

  • £69.99 / $95 / AU$143

The Ooono Co-Driver NO2 is arguably the benchmark here. Its compact design, simple setup and clever mounting options make it the most discreet device I have tested.

This latest generation pairs quickly with a smartphone, works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and can play alerts through the car's speakers. Plus, it automatically kicks into life when it detects a phone and the ignition is switched on.

Once installed, it quietly gets on with warning about fixed and mobile speed cameras, traffic jams and road hazards using a combination of LED alerts and audio notifications. Reporting incidents is equally straightforward, and the series of button combinations takes only minutes to learn.

The community-driven database continues to improve, although hazard reporting still isn't quite as comprehensive as Waze or Google Maps in some UK regions.

The biggest advantage is simplicity. There's no screen demanding attention and no subscription fees. It just works.

  • Verdict: Still the easiest and most polished speed camera companion available. Looks good, too.

2. Tom by TomTom

  • £69.99 / $95 / AU$143

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

TomTom has clearly taken inspiration from Ooono's playbook — and that's no bad thing.

Setup is quick, requiring little more than a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone and a free account. The rechargeable battery lasts around a month, meaning there are no cables to worry about.

Alerts are clear, with bright LEDs and audible warnings for cameras, congestion and speed limit breaches. Incident reporting is similarly simple and the camera database proved consistently accurate during testing.

Where it falls short is its design. The mounting solution isn't quite as elegant and the plastics don't feel as premium as Ooono's. The button layout also takes a little longer to learn by touch.

Still, it delivers almost everything the Ooono does and does it very well.

  • Verdict: An excellent Ooono alternative that runs the class leader surprisingly close.

3. Road Angel Pure Sync

  • £99.99 / $135 / AU$205

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

The Road Angel Pure Sync takes a different approach, adding a display screen and GPS speed readout to the mix.

Unfortunately, it also suffers from the most frustrating setup process. Registration requires payment details despite the included subscription, while Bluetooth pairing proved temperamental during testing.

The magnetic mount is neat, but unlike its rivals, the device requires constant power, meaning cables need to be routed around the dashboard.

Once operational, camera alerts are timely and effective. Speed limit warnings are impossible to miss, with bright visual cues and extremely loud voice prompts — perhaps too loud until adjusted in the settings.

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

The GPS speed display is useful in older cars but feels less necessary in modern vehicles that already feature accurate digital readouts.

Build quality is also disappointing for the price, with a plasticky feel and a display that can be difficult to read in direct sunlight.

  • Verdict: Effective once running, but harder to recommend given the higher price, subscription requirement and less polished experience.

4. Ooono Co-Driver NO1

  • £19.99 / $27 / AU$41

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

It's only when you place the Co-Driver NO1 and NO2 side by side that you realize just how much Ooono has improved its innovative speed camera alert device.

While cheaper to buy, the first-generation Co-Driver doesn't feature a built-in rechargeable battery, instead opting for a replaceable coin-cell battery that lasts around a year. It also doesn't communicate with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, nor does it feature a dedicated false-alert cancellation button.

It is considerably smaller, though, so if you want something discreet, this is the one to buy. That said, it uses a fixed 3M adhesive mount, so once in place, it is more difficult to relocate.

In short, the Co-Driver NO1 still handles the basics well, delivering reliable speed camera alerts and connecting to Ooono's community of users for free. It's also one of the cheapest ways to dip a toe into the world of GPS speed camera detectors.

  • Verdict: A more basic version of Ooono's current speed camera offering — it's smaller and much cheaper, so perfect for those on a budget.

5. Snooper My-Speed Plus

  • £199.99 / $270 / AU$410

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

After testing all of the other smartphone-connected devices here, the Snooper My-Speed Plus feels like a bit of a throwback to an era of bulky sat-nav units suction-mounted to a dashboard.

Unlike its rivals, it is a completely self-contained unit that mounts to the windshield and plugs into a 12V lighter socket, using its own GPS receiver and Snooper's AURA speed camera database to keep drivers informed.

The first thing you notice is its size. Where most of the competition is content being discreet little pucks that blend into the dashboard, the Snooper displays everything on a large 5-inch color screen. It constantly shows your GPS speed alongside the current speed limit, with red and green graphics that make it very difficult to ignore when you've drifted over the limit.

Speed camera coverage is extensive, but updating requires first registering the device and then plugging it into a Windows PC or Mac via the provided USB cable. Seeing how quickly speed cameras are appearing, frequent travelers will want to update the database monthly.

It's decidedly old-school and expensive, but the display is sharp and the overall hardware feels more premium than the Road Angel.

  • Verdict: It feels like a device from a bygone era and it's expensive.

The final verdict: which to buy?

GPS Speed Camera Detectors

Having used all of the devices, the Ooono Co-Driver NO2 stood out above the rest and would get my money.

It's simple, easy to use and doesn't require monthly memberships. While it's possible to get a similar experience with the Co-Driver NO1, I preferred the larger button and the look of the second generation... not to mention the fact that you can recharge it via USB-C and mount it to the sun visor, rather than sticking it to a dash.

TomTom's offering is near identical, but the app isn't as slick and the button layout isn't as user-friendly.

I don't think drivers need a GPS speed camera unit with a screen these days, as it defeats the point of mounting something small and discreet to the car.

Finally, it's worth addressing the fact that you can get a similar experience by using free smartphone apps, such as Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps and more.

But the Ooono and TomTom devices earn their money during those times where a smartphone is left in the pocket and you aren't navigating using either the vehicle or your phone's software.

Personally, I find it is exactly these moments when it easy to forget that a 20mph speed limit has been introduced in the local area and a gentle nudge from the Ooono saves my bacon.

I'm a digital minimalist, which is why I think more Android phone makers need to take cues from Nothing OS

I’ve always favored clean, minimal phone homescreens — the fewer icons, the better, with the wallpaper fully visible. This usually means I have to delete a lot of icons and widgets after initial setup, especially with a Samsung Phone and an iPhone to achieve that look. Pixel phones are much less cluttered in comparison, though I still have to tweak some settings a bit to personalize the homescreen fully.

Then, a few months back, I got my hands on the Nothing Phone 4a Pro, and it was love at first sight. Not only does it look great and punch above its weight class with its hardware, but Nothing OS seemed tailor-made for me — it’s now my favourite Android skin.

The Nothing Phone 4a Pro is pretty, but it's got so much more going for it. (Image credit: Future | Nico Arboleda)

I found the monochrome color scheme and minimal interface very appealing, reminding me somewhat of Pixel UI’s stock Android experience but with more character. The home screen widgets follow the same design philosophy, and community-made ones add extra functionality and whimsy I didn’t know I needed.

Clean, distraction-free bliss

My usual homescreen setup features just a single row of my most-used apps at the bottom, with icons set to a monochrome color scheme and maybe one or two widgets.

These settings are readily available on iOS and Pixel UI, and easy to apply, while Samsung’s One UI has a wide range of icon packs to choose from. But where you have to manually opt to have this minimal look, it’s the default on Nothing OS. It’s in no way a groundbreaking innovation, but it’s my favorite part of using the Nothing Phone 4a Pro.

A Nothing and Pixel phone on a wooden table

Nothing OS widgets also set themselves apart from typical Android or iOS widgets — they come in small square tiles (just enough to fit 4 icons in a 2x2 arrangement) that match the icons’ look. Even when I load up the 4a Pro’s homescreen to the brim with widgets and icons, it still looks clean and slick.

Don’t care for the default widgets? No problem. There are plenty of community-made ones you can download from Nothing Playground, a portal for widgets (found under Essential Apps in Settings) and equalizer profiles for audio. These are unique and can show off your personality too. Some of my favorite community-made widgets include a tic-tac-toe game, a functioning piano, and a meter that tracks CPU usage and temperature.

The latest major Nothing OS update introduced simple breathing exercise widgets — one each for Focus, Calm and Relax — with on-screen prompts that tell you when to inhale and exhale while music plays. Again, it’s not revolutionary, but I like being able to tap a widget on the homescreen instead of digging through menus in a dedicated health app.

These little things add up to making a fabulous user experience in my books.

Innovations and experiments

In my opinion, an even more impressive addition in that update is Essential Voice, an AI-powered speech-to-text feature that has produced the most accurate results I’ve seen on a phone so far.

Powered by Gemini 3 Flash, Essential Voice automatically removes filler words and sounds like “um”, “ah” and “basically” — something I tend to do a lot myself — and also auto-formats bullet lists. I tested this feature by dictating my rather long, rambling notes into Google Docs and it produced a neat outline to build the article I was working on.

There’s support for more than 100 languages and regional variants, which I tested by reciting phrases in Spanish, Italian, French and Filipino — the results were clean and accurate. While a similar feature called Rambler is coming to more phones via Android 17, it’s nice to see it already in action on Nothing OS. While I’m not quite ready to forgo keyboards just yet and talk to my phone instead, I still think it’s a fantastic shortcut to typing.

Nothing OS also lets you try experimental features like using the Glyph Matrix (the secondary screen on the 4a Pro’s back) as a progress bar for third-party apps (it only supports Uber, Zomato and Google Calendar for now) and improving Apple AirPods support — well, for an Android phone at least. They’re not the most earth-shattering features, sure, but they’re a promising sign of Nothing’s willingness to try new ideas and let users play around with them.

Screenshots of Nothing OS's experimental features menu and showing the AirPods Pro support

Nothing OS' experimental features include limited Apple AirPods support. (Image credit: Future | Nico Arboleda)

Admittedly, Nothing OS’s quirky design won’t be for everyone, as some users will prefer more conventionally designed widgets or colorful icons that are easy to identify, but the short 3-year software support window is what’s most disappointing here, especially when Samsung and Google offer 7 years, while Apple is pushing that to 8 years in some cases.

Nevertheless, Nothing’s phones stand out as aesthetically pleasing handsets that punch above their price range, with the software experience as the unheralded star of the show — at least for me. It’s the perfect minimalist experience out of the box, without sacrificing functionality, and it includes some useful extras enhancing the experience.

With Nothing changing its flagship release schedule for 2027, I’m curious to see how Nothing OS will evolve alongside a potentially more powerful phone. Perhaps it will offer more ways to encourage community innovation? Either way, I’m certainly keeping my eyes peeled for what’s next.

Apple price hikes have hit Australia, and the MacBook Neo no longer looks quite so cheap

  • Apple has raised prices across multiple categories in Australia
  • The MacBook Neo has lost some of its entry-level appeal
  • The move follows rising RAM and storage costs

Australian shoppers looking for EOFY offers, or waiting for early Amazon Prime Day tech deals, now have another price shift to factor in. Apple has raised local prices across several major product categories, including the new MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, iPad range, Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini and more.

The timing is awkward, but it also hasn't come from nowhere. Apple has usually been better than most tech companies at absorbing supply chain pressure before it reaches shoppers, though the current RAM and component crunch has been dragging on for long enough to change that calculation.

The warning signs came last month, when Tim Cook flagged "significantly higher memory costs" on an earnings call, then said RAM prices would "drive an increasing impact" on Apple products from this month.

Australian buyers will feel this

One of the clearest examples is the new MacBook Neo, Apple's lower-cost MacBook model and the machine most likely to appeal to students, or anyone trying to get a new Apple laptop for less than MacBook Air money. In Australia it launched with a price from AU$899. It now starts at AU$1,049, so it has lost some of its entry-level appeal.

Sure, it’s still Apple's cheapest laptop, but the higher starting price makes it less competitive against Windows laptops that have been fighting to compete with the Neo. The 512GB model with Touch ID has also gone from AU$1,099 to AU$1,249.

The MacBook Air has lost some of its competitive edge, and the 13-inch model with the M5 chip (check out our MacBook Air 13-inch M5 review) has jumped from AU$1,799 to AU$2,099 to start.

The 15-inch model is up by the same AU$300 amount, from AU$2,199 to AU$2,499. For a laptop that often sits in the middle of Apple's consumer Mac range, that is a significant hit to its value proposition.

The MacBook Pro increases are especially notable in some configurations. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 now starts at AU$3,199, up from AU$2,699, and the higher-end M5 Max models have also moved up by several hundred dollars. Buyers looking at extra memory or storage were already dealing with expensive upgrades, so the higher base prices only make that decision harder.

The Mac mini is another notable hit. It has gone from AU$999 to AU$1,299, which is a 30% increase on a machine that has often been one of the easier Apple desktops to justify on price.

The iPad range is up, which matters for students, families and anyone who was looking at a new tablet for work, study, travel or general use. The 11-inch iPad Air now starts at AU$1,249, up from AU$999, while the standard iPad, iPad mini and iPad Pro models have also increased.

The rises are not limited to Macs and iPads. HomePod mini has gone from AU$149 to AU$199, HomePod is up from AU$479 to AU$549, and Apple TV 4K has jumped from AU$219 to AU$299. Vision Pro was already a niche product at AU$5,999, and the new AU$6,299 starting price certainly does not broaden its appeal.

Apple's iPhone lineup, Apple Watch and AirPods appear to have avoided this round of increases at least. That helps limit the pain for some buyers, but it doesn’t change the issue for anyone who was waiting to buy a Mac, iPad or other Apple device.

Of course, Apple is not the only company dealing with higher memory and storage costs, but the scale of these changes is still pretty notable. Price rises across one or two products are easy enough to explain. Price rises across most of Apple’s range are not something that’s easily avoided.

An Apple spokesperson said: “The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac. We know this is not welcome news, and we are working tirelessly to find solutions.”

The main question is whether the Australian prices come back down if the RAM shortage eases, or whether these higher starting points become normal. We are hopeful, but Apple hasn’t promised a reversal.

For now, local retailers may be worth checking more closely, especially if older stock or short-term deal pricing remains available during EOFY and early Prime Day sales periods.

To help out, we have included some of the better remaining Apple deals below.

Best old price Apple deals

All these MacBook Neos on Amazon are currently listed as temporarily out of stock, but you can still order then from Amazon at this price to lock it in, and then Amazon will ship it out once available. With stock disappearing quickly, this might be one of your best ways to score the old price, as long as you don't mind waiting for delivery.

You can also get the 512GB model for AU$1,079, also temporarily out of stock, but still able to be ordered. View Deal

The MacBook Air M5 launched recently, so most of this saving comes from Apple's price hikes, but that means it's still a useful discount on Apple's newest lightweight laptop. In comparison, it's currently AU$2,099 from Apple. Want to know more? Check out our MacBook Air M5 review.

Also consider the 1TB SSD model for AU$1,897 — now AU$2,549 from Apple. Or the 24GB RAM, 1TB Air, for AU$2,197 — now AU$2,849 from Apple. View Deal

The 15-inch MacBook Air is currently AU$2,499 from Apple, so this is now a solid discount. Keep in mind that it is temporarily out of stock, so you can order now but delivery will be delayed.

Also consider the 1TB SSD model for AU$2,297 — now AU$2,949 from Apple. Or the 24GB RAM, 1TB Air, for AU$2,697 — now AU$3,249 from Apple. View Deal

This 16GB MacBook Pro currently has a great discount from Amazon compared to buying it for AU$3,199 from Apple. There's very limited stock though so it will likely sell out fast.View Deal

This is a tempting discount on the 11-inch iPad Air (base price was AU$999 yesterday) if you want a fast, lightweight tablet for streaming, study or work without stepping up to an iPad Pro. The M3 chip gives it plenty of headroom for multitasking and creative apps, and our iPad Air 11-inch (2025) review noted its excellent screen and impressive battery life.View Deal

This four-pack is a decent buy if you want to cover keys, bags, wallets and luggage in one go, especially in an iPhone household. Our AirTag 2 hands-on found the new model easier to find from farther away and clearly louder than the original. View Deal

The AirPods 4 are a tempting buy if you want Apple’s latest open-fit earbuds without stepping up to the ANC model. Our AirPods 4 review found they sounded good and offered a secure, comfortable fit despite the lack of in-ear tips.View Deal

This is a tempting price for iPhone users who want a full-featured Apple Watch without jumping to the Ultra. The always-on display, ECG app, sleep score and fitness tracking make it a useful everyday smartwatch, while the 42mm case is the more manageable size. Our iPhone 16e review praised its screen and performance, but the single rear camera and lack of MagSafe may matter to some people.View Deal

First UAVs that can stalk and kill Russian Shahed drones autonomously have been battle-tested in the Kharkiv region

  • Ukraine's autonomous interceptors stalk and destroy Russian Shaheds without human controls
  • Ukraine compressed years of drone development into twelve battlefield months
  • Brave1's interceptor automates 95% of the kill chain — the human only picks the target

Ukraine has cleared its first autonomous drone interceptor for battlefield deployment following combat testing completed recently in the Kharkiv region.

The system was developed under the Brave1 defence accelerator specifically to counter Shahed drones, which Russia increasingly launches in coordinated saturation attacks against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Those attacks rely heavily upon volume and timing because large numbers of incoming drones can gradually overwhelm conventional air defence systems and human reaction speeds simultaneously.

Autonomous interceptors reach combat testing

Ukraine’s response now involves reducing how much of the interception process still depends upon direct human control during active battlefield engagements involving multiple aerial threats.

According to Ukrainian officials, the interceptor automates roughly 95% of the engagement sequence from launch through terminal destruction of the incoming drone.

Human operators still decide which drone should be engaged before the interceptor assumes responsibility for navigation, recognition, pursuit, and strike execution independently afterward.

That operational structure allows crews to supervise engagements instead of manually piloting interceptors through every stage of aerial combat under high-pressure battlefield conditions.

Ukrainian officials believe reducing operator workload could become increasingly important during large nighttime bombardments involving several incoming drones approaching defended airspace simultaneously.

The manufacturer reportedly moved from prototype development toward verified combat deployment within less than twelve months under continuing wartime operational pressures across Ukraine.

That unusually compressed timeline appears closely connected to Brave1’s institutional and financial backing, which reduced delays commonly associated with traditional peacetime procurement procedures.

Officials argue wartime conditions leave little opportunity for prolonged development schedules because interception delays increasingly determine whether drones successfully reach populated urban areas.

“We continue to systematically strengthen the defence of the sky,” the ministry stated while discussing interceptor systems already tested under active combat conditions recently.

Scaling ambitions meet an unverified record

Ukraine now says it is expanding production and deployment of these interceptors as part of broader efforts to increase domestic military drone manufacturing capacity nationwide.

Publicly available information regarding actual kill rates and long-term battlefield reliability remains extremely limited outside official Ukrainian statements.

Evaluating the system also becomes more difficult because Russia has continuously modified its Shahed drones throughout the conflict, using changing flight profiles and components.

Autonomous interception could become even more complicated once electronic interference, airborne decoys, civilian aircraft, and friendly drones begin sharing the same contested airspace simultaneously.

Because no independent technical assessment has yet been released publicly, the actual battlefield accuracy of the interceptor system remains difficult to verify externally.

The Kharkiv deployment nevertheless establishes an early proof of concept showing Ukraine’s growing interest in partially autonomous air defence systems during modern drone warfare.

My ultimate Prime Day hi-fi tip — buy the Wiim Amp Ultra for a bargain price and pair it with these floorstanding speakers for a huge-sounding setup

It's Amazon Prime Day, and one of my favorite deals of day isn't actually a huge discount, but I think it's a really worthwhile buy at the lower price. It's the WiiM Amp Ultra, which is available for $449 at Amazon US (down from $529), or you can get it for £425 at Amazon UK (down from $499).

Browse the full Amazon Prime Day sale

I have the WiiM Amp Ultra at home, and it's an amazing streaming amp for this price. It's really well-built and looks at home among nice furniture, with a solid metal finish — and it's shockingly compact, considering that it provides up to 100W per channel, so it can work with some really hefty speakers,

Most importantly, it sounds excellent, and there's support for nearly every music service you could want (but I'll come back to that "nearly), plus useful inputs for a turntable and so on.

I use it with a pair of Dali Oberon 5 bookshelf speakers, and the combination is off the charts for a hi-fi system that barely takes up any space. Obviously, floorstanding speakers are tall, but the Oberon 5 only have the same footprint as bookshelf speakers, so these three boxes overall can be used even in space-starved homes, but sound like you've got a much bigger, beefier setup.

When I started this configuration, I auditioned it against using the Amp Ultra with a pair of Dali Oberon 1 bookshelf speakers, and against a pair of Sonos Era 300 speakers (a pair of which costs about the same as getting the Amp Ultra and Oberon 5 speakers).

The Oberon 1 bookshelf speakers crushed the Sonos Era 300 when it came to detail and dynamic response in music, but they were equally crushed by the Sonos for bass depth and dispersion of sound in the room.

However, the Oberon 5 are the best of all worlds with the WiiM powering them — big and controlled bass, fantastic detail in the mids and treble, superb dynamic attack, and great dispersion in the room.

So I'd recommend the WiiM Amp Ultra generally, but if you're thinking that you'd like a whole magnificent hi-fi setup for under £1,000 in the UK, here's my recommendation today — if you're in the US, scroll down, because I've got a recommendation for you right after.

Today's best UK WiiM Amp Ultra and speaker deal combination

The WiiM Amp Ultra is a small-but-mighty streaming amp, offering Wi-Fi streaming from major music services, Bluetooth connectivity, line-in support, and up to 100W per channel of speaker power to drive some pretty demanding boxes, despite its compact size.View Deal

These speakers have technically been discontinued now, in favor of Dali's new Sonik range — but that means that while discounted stock remains, they're a stone-cold bargain. They received five stars from our friends at What Hi-Fi?. Two of their key features are wide dispersion (so you don't need to worry much about sweet spots and toe-ing in) and that they're not fussy about placement near walls. Flexible, great-sounding and an amazing price — especially combined with the Amp Ultra for less than £1k.View Deal

Today's best UK WiiM Amp Ultra and speaker deal combination

Some speakers are quite a lot more expensive in the US than in Europe, and Dali speakers are chief among this category. So when looking for an equivalent system to suggest with the WiiM Amp Ultra in the US, I wanted to find something that was also a huge bargain, and that's just as good, and the ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2 is the perfect option, because their bookshelf version also got five stars from What Hi-Fi? in their review.

The WiiM Amp Ultra is a small-but-mighty streaming amp, offering Wi-Fi streaming from major music services, Bluetooth connectivity, line-in support, and up to 100W per channel of speaker power to drive some pretty demanding boxes, despite its compact size.View Deal

Please note that price above is per speaker! You'll need two for, y'know, stereo. That makes the combination with the Amp Ultra just shy of $1,300, but this will be a truly impressive setup for that price, given that it's all you need to get started in the world of hardcore hi-fi, as long as you have a streaming subscription.View Deal

The downside to the WiiM Amp Ultra

There is one thing I want to note about the Amp Ultra: it's not 100% ideal for Apple Music households, despite its aluminum look and slick design. It lacks any kind of Apple support outside of Bluetooth — not just Apple Music (which is normal for streaming amps, only Sonos has this natively), but even AirPlay 2, which nearly every other music streaming device on the planet supports.

It doesn't have a USB audio input either, which seems like an odd omission for an 'Ultra' device — and it's annoying that it rules out using your Apple device's USB port to send Hi-Res Audio to it.

Now, Spotify is the most popular service, and that's supported. I have a Tidal subscription, so I'm all good. This is far from affecting everyone, but there are plenty of people who are deep in the Apple system, who use Apple Music only, and the Amp Ultra is oddly hostile to those people.

The Anker Solix F2000 is the portable power station serious campers, RV owners, and home backup users have been waiting for — and it's just got a major Prime Day price cut

Most portable power stations force you to choose among capacity, speed, and longevity. The Anker Solix F2000 is $749 (regularly $899) at Anker, and it doesn’t ask you to make that compromise.

With 2048Wh of LiFePO4 capacity, 2400W of continuous AC output, a 10-year rated lifespan, and a 0–80% recharge time of just 1.4 hours, it’s one of the most complete portable power stations you can buy at any price. And at $749 in Anker's own Prime Day sale, which guarantees the best price compared to other retailers, the value case is hard to argue against.

For home backup, charging devices and driving appliances during power outages or summer trips, this is a top pick. For more Anker products, we've rounded up the 12 best Anker Prime Day deals you can get right now.

Today's top portable power station deal

2048Wh | 2400W

There's not much I don't like about this heavyweight portable power station. It's packed with ports, have a 3600W surge power mode, and recharges from 0 to 80% in just 1.4 hours using HyperFlash technology. Built-in wheels and retractable EasyTow handle make it genuinely portable for its size. You can even add a battery expansion up to 4096Wh. View Deal

The core of the F2000 is its LiFePO4 battery chemistry, which underpins everything else the machine does well. LiFePO4 cells are chemically stable, fire-resistant, and certified for indoor use — unlike cheaper lithium-ion packs that can overheat or degrade significantly within a few hundred cycles.

The 2400W continuous output and 3600W surge ceiling via SurgePad mean this machine doesn’t just charge laptops and phones — it runs appliances. A 1500W space heater, a fridge, a microwave, power tools, a CPAP machine with heated humidifier, a coffee maker. You name it.

HyperFlash fast charging is the spec that changes how you think about using the machine. Most 2000Wh+ power stations take five to eight hours to recharge from a wall outlet — long enough that you plan your entire trip or outage around their recovery time. The F2000 goes from 0 to 80% in 1.4 hours, so you can drain it overnight during a blackout, plug it in at 7am, and have it substantially recharged before you head to work. For RV users, that means you can top it up at a campsite hook-up in the time it takes to have breakfast.

The port selection is among the most practical at this price. The dedicated TT-30 RV port is a genuine differentiator — it means F2000 owners with an RV don’t need an adapter, and it signals that Anker designed this machine for actual vehicle use rather than as an afterthought. The three 100W USB-C ports will simultaneously fast-charge three laptops or a laptop plus two tablets. The four AC outlets, two car outlets, and two USB-A ports round out a panel that handles every real-world device combination without requiring port juggling.

Solar charging supports up to 1000W input via an XT-60 connector, compatible with Anker’s own 200W and 400W panels as well as most third-party panels in the supported voltage range. This makes the F2000 a genuinely off-grid-capable system when paired with panels — useful for extended camping, van builds, and off-grid cabins. The Anker SOLIX app handles remote monitoring of battery level, charging time, and power usage over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with a clean interface that reviewers have found intuitive.

If you need serious, reliable backup power for a home, RV, or extended off-grid use, the Anker SOLIX F2000 is one of the strongest offers available in the 2000Wh class right now. Check out more options in our guide to the best portable power stations.

'Skip the Dyson, get this instead': As a vacuum reviewer, this is the EOFY handstick deal I'd buy myself

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Dreame Z50 Station vacuum cleaner when it first launched earlier this year, but its spec sheet was impressive. With industry-leading 330 air watts of suction power, I was hoping it would clean better than the 315AW Dyson V16 Piston Animal... and, boy, did it impress!

It put that high suction to good use and, in my Dreame Z50 Station review, I couldn't help but say it can put both Dyson and Shark to shame. My only complaints were its overall weight (it's the heaviest stick vacuum I've ever tested) and its steep price tag.

However, that premium price is now a lot more achievable as Dreame has discounted it down to AU$999 (from AU$1,499) directly on its site. You won't find the Z50 Station sold at other retailers, so this offer can be easy to miss and yet it's the one EOFY deal you shouldn't — I consider the Z50 Station to be one of the best vacuum cleaners in Australia right now.

It might be heavy, but I was very impressed with this stick vac's performance — if there's one EOFY deal you shouldn't miss if you need a new vacuum, it's probably this one. This is the first time I've seen it drop below the one-grand mark and its suction is fabulous on all kinds of floors, plus its self-emptying functionality is just as impressive. You will need to account for the recurring cost of dust bags though.View Deal

Admittedly you'll get a Dyson for less than AU$999 (like the Dyson V15 Detect now AU$799 or the Dyson Gen5detect for AU$898), but the Dreame Z50 Station easily justifies the higher price for a couple of key reasons that even the best Dyson vacuums can't compete with.

Firstly, that suction power of 330AW. I admit that this spec isn't a standard used across the industry and a lot of that suction capability is dependent on the airflow through the machine, but Dreame seems to have done it well. From the design of the floorhead that can suck while moving back or forth to the volume of air moving into the onboard dust cup, the Z50 definitely is very sucky indeed. In my tests, it cleaned up messes in one move, two at the most, a touch less than any Dyson I've reviewed personally!

Then there's the self-emptying functionality that's a default part of the machine. The Station is just as powerful and can empty the dust cap as soon as the stick vac is placed onto the dock. I did notice that a thin layer of fine does get stuck around the top rubber washer inside the dust cup, but it's remarkably easier to dismantle the handheld unit for regular maintenance — a lot easier than Dyson's design of the dust cup in my opinion.

I should call out the telescopic tube that, again, you won't see on a Dyson. Oh, and said tube is bendy too, so you can get under furniture (you'll need to buy a separate attachment from Dyson to do that).

You will have to consider the ongoing cost of the dust bag but, given its 3L volume, you may not need to throw it out as often as smaller bags and it could prove economical.

If you've got the budget, this is arguably the best premium cordless vacuum I've tested this year and I would absolutely skip the Dyson for this one.

Bada bing! The Sopranos is one of the best TV shows ever made, and it's finally coming to 4K Blu-ray

  • The Sopranos: The Complete Series is a limited edition 4K Blu-ray release
  • 86 episodes over 28 discs including 2 bonus Blu-rays
  • December 2026 (US), $149.99

One of the greatest TV dramas of all time is coming to 4K Blu-ray. The Sopranos: The Complete Series box set is available for pre-order in the US and Canada, and will be released at the end of 2026.

This far from the first Sopranos box set: in addition to the DVD box set I've got on the shelf, there was a Blu-ray box in 2014, plus a 25th anniversary Blu-ray box set in 2024, which included The Many Saints of Newark as well. So this is the first time it's all available in 4K.

This edition delivers a brand new and currently untitled featurette with Sopranos creator and writer David Chase. That featurette is on one of the two bonus discs that also include hours of extra material including a two-part documentary, seven behind-the-scenes featurettes, and all of the bonus content previously released on The Sopranos: Complete Series Blu-ray release. And it's all delivered in hardcover lay-flat book packaging.

For fans of the show, this looks like the ultimate release: the best-looking, most pristine way to see one of the most influential TV shows ever.

Why The Sopranos in 4K is a must-have mafia drama

The Sopranos tells the story of depressed mob boss Tony Soprano, who's going to therapy in secret because he knows that if word gets out about his "weakness", he's a dead man walking. It's as much about family as it is about mafia families, and it features stellar performances throughout.

During its run the show amassed multiple well-deserved awards including 111 Primetime Emmy nominations and 21 wins, 5 Golden Globe awards, and Emmys for cast members James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, Drea de Matteo, and Joe Pantoliano.

I'm not being hyperbolic when I tell you that The Sopranos began a golden age of TV drama. Without The Sopranos, there would be no Breaking Bad, Mad Men or any of the other premium shows we love so much.

It was pivotal in shifting the view that TV was inferior to cinema, and that our relatable protagonists couldn't be awful people. And it was really, really, really good: the writing, the performances and the cinematography were all superb.

While much of the praise for The Sopranos centers on the cast, and rightly so, the work of cinematographer Alik Sakharov was crucial too. The cinematography was groundbreaking in how it contributed to the story, and there's a fascinating article about it on No Film School. And if that's the kind of thing you find interesting, then this new 4K box set was made for you.

The Sopranos 4K Blu-ray box set has a release date of 8 December 2026 in the US and a recommended price of $149.99.

‘Never let the builder be its own reviewer’: The next challenge is trust, not speed of code generation

The AI industry may have found its next battle, and it’s not model training, GPU availability or data centers expansion. It’s actually how artificial intelligence is being framed in the first place.

For the past couple of years, AI coding assistants have been marketed as productivity boosters, promising to help across code generation, debugging and testing.

But the recent SpaceX acquisition of AI coding platform Cursor shows just how important AI coding systems can be in AI. While coding tools are generally considered from the developer’s point of view, software generation is increasingly being seen as a strategic capability for future autonomous systems.

Whether managing infrastructure, coordinating logistics or automating business processes, tomorrow’s coding agents will need to create, edit and maintain software instead of just helping developers to write code.

AI’s impact on code generation is trust

In other words, AI coding agents are less about being tools and more about being infrastructure layers through which organizations can build, operate and even govern their tech – similar to how we see cloud, networking and security today.

But in dehumanizing software generation, we’re uncovering the next challenge. Software development used to be limited by the speed at which humans can review, test and validate code before it goes into production, but it’s now all about trust and verification.

With AI now capable of generating code at lightning pace, questions around quality, security, compliance and governance are now being raised.

Acknowledging that code generation has been vastly democratized, Qodo CEO Itamar Friedman now believes what sets companies apart will be verification and governance. The winners will be the ones to deploy trustworthy software at scale, not the ones to launch it fastest.

To better understand what SpaceX’s Cursor acquisition means for the future of software engineering, how AI coding platforms are evolving from tools to infrastructure, and how we can tackle the next bottleneck that is trust, I spoke with Friedman.

  • Does this acquisition signal that AI coding tools are becoming strategic infrastructure rather than just developer productivity tools?

Yes, and the price tag makes it explicit. You don’t just pay $60B for a productivity feature, you pay that price to have complete control over the coding mechanism your engineering teams run every day.

When the tool sits in the path of every change that ships, it is infrastructure, with the same reliability, security, and governance expectations as the rest of your stack.

  • What does SpaceX's interest in Cursor say about the role AI coding tools will play in the next generation of AI-native companies?

AI-native companies want to own their means of production. SpaceX is not buying a chat window, it’s buying the ability to shape how code is generated across an organization that writes mission critical software.

What the next generation of tools is signaling is that the coding layer is too important to rent on someone else's roadmap. Instead, companies need to treat code generation, review, and governance as core infrastructure they direct, not as a third party relationship they hope holds up.

  • Why might companies building highly complex or mission-critical systems want greater control over the AI coding layer?

In a high-stakes environment, you never let the builder be its own reviewer. When a single system both writes code and judges whether it is correct, you get a biased feedback loop where the AI is grading its own homework.

Greater control means being able to insert independent verification, enforce your own standards, and produce an audit trail of every decision.

  • How should enterprises think about evaluating AI coding tools after a major ownership change or acquisition?

Enterprises should evaluate for independence and continuity, not for features. They must ask who controls the roadmap now, whether your data stays in your environment, and whether the tool still works alongside the rest of your stack or quietly steers you into another owner's ecosystem.

During an acquisition, a tool that was neutral yesterday may be optimized for its new parent tomorrow. The durable choice is the layer you can keep running on your terms regardless of who owns the model underneath it.

  • As AI generates more production code, what new challenges does that create for engineering teams?

As code volumes skyrocket, the bottleneck moves from writing code to verifying it. The hard part about software was never producing more lines, it is confirming the code does what it’s intended to do, holds to your architecture, and meets your standards at scale.

When AI writes thirty percent of your codebase and rising, line-by-line human review can’t keep up and trust becomes the scarce resource. The challenge is building verification that runs with near-perfect precision and recall across hundreds of quality dimensions, automatically, on every change.

  • What will differentiate the winners in the AI coding market over the next few years: better code generation, better governance, or something else?

Generation is commoditizing. High-fidelity output already looks more and more similar across the major models, and that gap will keep closing.

Then, differentiation moves to the quality layer: governance, verification, and the ability to enforce standards with the precision an enterprise can actually trust.

Better governance is the moat: those enterprises that succeed will be the ones that make AI-gen code safe to ship, not the ones that generated it faster.

  • What should developers and engineering leaders be watching for as the AI coding market continues to consolidate?

Watch out for vendor lock-in disguised as integration. As the market consolidates, the pressure will be to buy generation and verification from the same owner, which is exactly the conflict of interest that erodes trust.

Leaders should keep their verification layer independent from whoever writes the code, protect the portability of their data and standards, and avoid betting their SDLC on a single vendor's incentives.

Consider this your sign to finally start that new PC build project — MSI has two excellent motherboard deals in Amazon's Prime Day sale

Motherboard deals at this level of discount don’t come around that often. Right now, Amazon has the MSI PRO X870-P WiFi at $152 (was $170) for AMD Ryzen and the MSI B760 Gaming Plus WiFi at $133 (was $200) for Intel in the Prime Day sale.

Both are well-regarded ATX boards with built-in Wi-Fi, and both represent meaningful savings if you’re mid-build or planning an upgrade. And both punch above their discounted price.

The two boards target different platforms entirely — one is AMD AM5, the other Intel LGA 1700 — so this isn’t a true apples-to-apples comparison. Think of them as two separate opportunities: one for Ryzen 7000/8000/9000 builders, and one for 12th/13th/14th Gen Intel builders.

Today's top computer deals

A well-built AMD AM5 motherboard in a clean silver-and-black design that works with Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors. It’s an ATX board with a 14-phase power system, DDR5 support up to 8200 MT/s, three M.2 slots (one PCIe 5.0), PCIe 5.0 x16 for the GPU, Wi-Fi 7, 5Gbps Ethernet, USB4, and Thunderbolt 4 on the rear I/O. MSI’s EZ DIY features (tool-free M.2 clips, easy PCIe release, magnetic antenna) make building with it noticeably less fiddly. Dual BIOS included. Three-year warranty. View Deal

A feature-packed Intel LGA 1700 ATX board that supports 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen Intel Core processors on DDR5. It comes with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 built in, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, PCIe 4.0 x16 for the GPU, two M.2 Gen4 slots, USB 3.2 Gen 2 rear ports, and HDMI plus DisplayPort outputs for builds using Intel integrated graphics. Reinforced PCIe slots, robust VRM heatsinks, and solid build quality throughout. Rated 4.4/5 from over 840 reviews. Three-year warranty.View Deal

More on the PRO X870-P WiFi — AMD AM5

At this price, the PRO X870-P Wi-Fi sits in an interesting spot: it’s the X870 chipset — AMD’s current-gen platform with full PCIe 5.0 support — at a price that previously would have bought you a mid-range B650 board. The X870 chipset brings wider PCIe 5.0 support and Wi-Fi 7 as a platform requirement (rather than an optional add-on), and AMD has committed to AM5 support through at least 2027, which means whatever Ryzen processor you pair with this board today will have a clear upgrade path for several years.

The connectivity package at this price is genuinely impressive. Wi-Fi 7 with its 320MHz channel width delivers noticeably lower latency and higher throughput than Wi-Fi 6E — the kind of upgrade you notice on a busy home network. The 5Gbps Ethernet port, USB4 at 40Gbps, and Thunderbolt 4 are the kind of specs that usually appear on more expensive boards. Three M.2 slots (including one Gen5) gives you flexibility for fast SSDs now and room to expand later.

MSI’s PRO series is positioned more toward productivity and professional use than the flashier gaming-branded boards, which means the design is restrained — minimal RGB, clean silver heatsinks, no aggressive aesthetics. Whether that’s a positive depends entirely on what you want your build to look like. Best Buy reviewers have praised it as straightforward to install and stable from the first boot, with multiple builders noting it’s working well with everything from Ryzen 7700X to the 9800X3D.

One honest note: the PRO X870-P is tuned more for stability and accessibility than aggressive overclocking. If you’re planning to push DDR5 kits to their absolute limits or run a flagship Ryzen 9 chip at sustained all-core maximum TDP, a higher-end X870E board would give you more VRM headroom. For the majority of builds — including enthusiast setups — it handles everything without issue.

More on the B760 Gaming Plus WiFi Gaming Motherboard

The B760 Gaming Plus WiFi is the more straightforward recommendation of the two — it’s a well-established board with a substantial real-world track record. The 840+ reviews on Amazon at 4.4/5 tell a consistent story: this board works reliably, installs without drama, and delivers good performance across a wide range of Intel builds.

Intel’s LGA 1700 platform supports 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen Core processors, which means there’s a wide choice of CPUs available at various price points — everything from a budget Core i3 to the Core i9-14900K. It’s worth noting that Intel has moved on to the LGA 1851 socket for its newest Arrow Lake generation, so this platform won’t support 15th Gen CPUs. That said, for builds centered on a 13th- or 14th-Gen processor, the B760 remains a very solid foundation.

Wi-Fi 6E built-in is a practical inclusion at this price — it saves you from buying a separate wireless adapter and keeps the build clean. 2.5 Gbps Ethernet provides fast wired connectivity for those who prefer a cable. Two M.2 Gen4 slots comfortably handle primary and secondary NVMe SSDs, and PCIe 4.0 x16 is more than adequate for any current GPU.

Reviewers have specifically praised the B760 Gaming Plus WiFi for its stability across sustained workloads — one reviewer noted it handled “AAA applications and multitasking effortlessly” over ten months of use without a single stability issue. The reinforced PCIe slots and robust VRM heatsinks contribute to a build quality that feels more substantial than budget Intel boards at a similar price.

Also consider: Pre-built PC deals

This is MSI’s enthusiast-tier pre-built and it shows. The Core Ultra 7 265 is Intel’s Arrow Lake chip with a dedicated NPU on board — the same AI-acceleration hardware that qualifies it as a proper AI PC. Pair that with the RTX 5070 and DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and you’ve got a machine that’ll comfortably handle anything at 1440p and push hard at 4K. The 2TB NVMe SSD is a welcome upgrade over the 1TB in the Codex R2, and the ARGB fan setup in a full-tower chassis with tempered glass looks genuinely impressive on a desk. Wi-Fi 6E, USB Type-C, Windows 11 Home, VR-ready.View Deal

This is the pre-built for someone who wants to sit down and game the same day it arrives, without spending a weekend sourcing parts. It’s got the RTX 5070 — Nvidia’s latest generation GPU with 12GB of fast GDDR7 memory and DLSS 4 support — paired with a capable Intel Core i5-14400F, 32GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The chassis has a dedicated RGB CPU air cooler and four-fan airflow system, an 80+ Gold certified PSU, Wi-Fi 6E, and Windows 11 Home pre-installed. All standard off-the-shelf components, so upgrading storage, RAM, or the GPU down the road is straightforward.View Deal

How to watch Paraguay vs Australia: Free Streams, TV Channels & Kick-Off time for the battle to finish second in Group D at FIFA World Cup 2026, team news

Paraguay and Australia meet in San Francisco to thrash out who finishes second and third in Group D at the FIFA World Cup 2026, and you can live stream the game around the world for free.

Both sides lost to co-hosts USA and beat Turkey in their opening two matches, so this fixture will decide who progresses to the knockout stage as runners-up and who will have to keep their fingers crossed that they can squeeze through as one of the best third-place teams. Paraguay are in a slightly shakier position on account of their 4-1 defeat by the USA in their first game, which means that even after a 1-0 win over Turkey they still have a goal difference of -2. They play their second successive game in San Francisco knowing a defeat could leave their hopes of reaching the last-32 in the balance, forcing them to rely on results elsewhere to qualify in third place.

Australia currently occupy the runners-up spot by virtue of having a goal difference of 0, so they will finish second if they avoid defeat. The high of their 2-0 win over Turkey gave way to reality as they were beaten by the same scoreline against the USA last time out and it will be interesting to see how Tony Popovic sets his side up here. The head coach is aiming to become the first person in Socceroos history to reach the World Cup knockout stage as a player and a manager, having done so as part of the squad in 2006. If Australia clinch second place, the prize is a meeting with the Group G runners-up – currently Iran – next Friday in Dallas.

So, read on as we show you exactly how to watch Paraguay vs Australia for free in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Lenovo debuts curious mini PC that comes with a proprietary 'store' where you can buy up to 8000 different AI skills — is this the future of computing?

  • Lenovo replaces traditional applications with thousands of downloadable AI functions
  • Lenovo AI Host Mini ships with access to over 8000 skills
  • Lenovo's proprietary marketplace sits at the centre of the experience

Lenovo has launched a mini PC which replaces much of the traditional software model with downloadable artificial intelligence functions from its own marketplace.

The company says users can access more than 8000 AI Skills instead of relying exclusively on conventional desktop applications and services.

Unlike conventional software stores operated by third parties, those AI functions are distributed through Lenovo's own proprietary marketplace integrated into the Tianxi Claw platform.

A computer built around downloadable AI functions

The AI Host mini can be configured by scanning a QR code with a smartphone before enabling additional functions through the Skills marketplace.

After completing the configuration process, users can deploy AI tools through the Skills system.

Lenovo says the platform arrives with more than 20 preinstalled Skills while allowing access to thousands of additional capabilities afterwards.

Those functions can connect with QQ, WeChat, and Feishu, allowing the system to interact with existing communication platforms and workflows.

This system feels more like an app store for AI services, although whether users prefer buying AI skills over traditional software remains uncertain.

Also, multiple Claw instances can operate simultaneously while supporting access from several users sharing one device.

Compact hardware powers Lenovo's experiment

The Lenovo AI Host Mini supports developer mode and ships with Ubuntu, although support for Windows appears uncertain at this stage.

Under the hood, the device uses the Cixin P1 CD8180, a 6nm Arm processor featuring a 12-core CPU designed for computing tasks.

Developed by China's Cixin Technology, the processor reportedly delivers performance comparable to several older high-end Intel mobile chips.

The chip also incorporates a 10-core GPU based on Arm's Immortalis G720 architecture for handling graphics and visual workloads.

Alongside the graphics hardware sits a dedicated NPU rated at 30 TOPS, contributing to Lenovo's claimed total of 45 TOPS.

Supporting those components are 8GB of LPDDR5 memory operating at 6000MT/s, together with a 256GB SSD for local storage.

Despite carrying dedicated artificial intelligence hardware, the system occupies just 0.48L of space within its compact enclosure.

The chassis measures 100 x 100 x 48.65 mm, weighs approximately 0.373 kg, and can fit easily onto crowded desks.

For connectivity, it includes two USB 3.2 ports, two USB-C ports, HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.4, and integrated 2.5GbE networking.

Lenovo has opened pre-orders in China at 2,999 RMB (about $444), but this device will remain limited to the Chinese market for now.

That said, whether users eventually prefer buying AI capabilities from proprietary marketplaces instead of installing conventional software remains to be seen.

How to watch Turkey vs USA: Free Streams, TV Channels & Kick-Off time as FIFA World Cup 2026 co-hosts eye perfect group-stage campaign, team news

Co-hosts USA will aim to round off a perfect Group D campaign against already-eliminated Turkey at the FIFA World Cup 2026, and you can live stream the game around the world for free.

Mauricio Pochettino's side could hardly have dreamed of a better start to their home World Cup, with a 2-0 win over Australia that clinched top spot in Group D with a game to spare. The USMNT head coach has suggested key figures Folarin Balogun, Tyler Adams, Chris Richards and Antonee Robinson will get a rest, with the quartet all one booking away from a one-game ban. 'Captain America' Christian Pulisic should return after missing the Socceroos win with a calf issue. The US will be keen to maintain their momentum, with Bosnia & Herzegovina almost certain to follow in the last 32.

Of all the 48 teams at this World Cup, Turkey have arguably been the biggest disappointments. A talented side featuring Real Madrid star Arda Guler and Juventus' Kenan Yildiz have failed to score a goal in North America, let alone claim a point, despite taking 62 shots in their opening two matches. After a shock 2-0 defeat by Australia, Vincenzo Montella's men conceded inside two minutes on their way to a 1-0 reverse against Paraguay. Their inferior head-to-head record means they are guaranteed to finish bottom of the group in their first World Cup for 24 years, when they won bronze.

So, read on as we show you exactly how to watch Turkey vs USA for free in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The answers to today's Strands, game #845, are…

  • PASS
  • HORNS
  • THREE
  • BROTHERS
  • TROLL
  • BRIDGE
  • SPANGRAM: BILLYGOATSGRUFF
  • My rating: Hard
  • My score: 2 hints

Today I had to resist the temptation to go in search of things I might “gobble” up, like pizza, peanuts or chocolate (this was after spotting “beer” and “gyro”).

I tried to recall the children’s story that featured the phrase “I’ll gobble you up!” but completely failed due to the fact that virtually all of them do.

It is of course BILLYGOATSGRUFF, as I discovered after two hints gave me PASS and HORNS; a typically horrific tale where the phrase “I’ll gobble you up” is followed by “and put your bones in a sack!” Sleep well, kids!

NYT Connections today (game #1111) - today's words

Today's NYT Connections words are…

  • TANG
  • CHIP
  • BOARD
  • PINKY
  • DALE
  • REDO
  • SPLINTER
  • NUT
  • HOLLOW
  • TREE
  • GORGE

NYT Connections today (game #1111) - hint #1 - group hints

What are some clues for today's NYT Connections groups?

We're firmly in spoiler territory now, but read on if you want to know what the four theme answers are for today's NYT Connections puzzles…

NYT Connections today (game #1111) - hint #2 - group answers

What are the answers for today's NYT Connections groups?

  • YELLOW: CRUNCHY SNACK ITEM
  • GREEN: VARIOUS AMOUNTS OF WOOD
  • BLUE: AREAS OF LOW GROUND
  • PURPLE: COLORS PLUS A LETTER

Right, the answers are below, so DO NOT SCROLL ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM.

NYT Connections today (game #1111) - the answers

NYT Connections answers for game 1111 on a purple background

The answers to today's Connections, game #1111, are…

  • YELLOW: CRUNCHY SNACK ITEM CHIP, CRACKER, NUT, PRETZEL
  • GREEN: VARIOUS AMOUNTS OF WOOD BOARD, LOG, SPLINTER, TREE
  • BLUE: AREAS OF LOW GROUND DALE, DELL, GORGE, HOLLOW
  • PURPLE: COLORS PLUS A LETTER BRONZER, PINKY, REDO, TANG
  • My rating: Easy
  • My score: Perfect

I was proud of myself on two counts today. Firstly, in managing to get a purple first and secondly, in managing to resist submitting the four CRUNCHY SNACK ITEMs ahead of the more risky collection of COLORS PLUS A LETTER.

Although I was confident of a connection between REDO and PINKY, BRONZER and TANG felt like a risk — but the gamble paid off.

With eight tiles left, the remainder were easy to split apart and I went with four tiles which I thought described parts of a woodland, rather than AREAS OF LOW GROUND.

Yesterday's NYT Connections answers (Thursday, June 25, game #1110)

  • YELLOW: COMPUTER PERIPHERALS MICROPHONE, MONITOR, PRINTER, TRACKPAD
  • GREEN: TIGHTLY PACKED COMPACT, COMPRESSED, DENSE, SQUASHED
  • BLUE: HAZARDOUS ELEMENTAL METALS FRANCIUM, LEAD, MERCURY, POLONIUM
  • PURPLE: STARTING WITH BIRD HOMOPHONES CRANIUM, CROQUETTE, DUCTILE, HOCKEY

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite tough and purple usually very difficult.

On the plus side, you don't technically need to solve the final one, as you'll be able to answer that one by a process of elimination. What's more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little bit of breathing room.

It's a little more involved than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For instance, watch out for homophones and other word games that could disguise the answers.

It's playable for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.

The MSI Vision ZS is a potent combo of Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5070 in a stunning pre-built — and it’s $510 off for Prime Day

If you’re after a pre-built desktop that doesn’t compromise on anything — CPU, GPU, storage, cooling, or aesthetics — the MSI Vision ZS (9NVP-2068US) is $2790 (was $3299) at Amazon for Prime Day.

See all Prime Day deals at Amazon.com

The $510 saving is significant, but the more compelling argument is what you’re getting: AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with an RTX 5070 is arguably the best CPU-GPU pairing for an all-around high-performance desktop.

The 9800X3D is AMD’s flagship desktop processor and the current benchmark leader for CPU-intensive workloads. The RTX 5070’s 12GB of GDDR7 memory and DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation support gives the GPU side of the equation equal footing.

Top Prime Day desktop PC deal

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the headline spec here, and it earns that billing. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the headline spec here, and it earns that billing. Built on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture and equipped with 96MB of stacked 3D V-Cache, it consistently tops multi-threaded benchmark charts and delivers the kind of sustained performance that creators, developers, and heavy multitaskers notice immediately.

The 3D V-Cache technology — a stack of additional cache sitting directly on the processor die — dramatically reduces the latency involved in fetching data from system memory, which is where the Zen 5 generation makes its most significant generational leap over Zen 4. At 4.7GHz base and 5.2GHz boost, it’s also among the most efficient high-core-count desktop chips available.

The RTX 5070’s 12GB of GDDR7 memory operates at a significantly higher bandwidth than the GDDR6X memory found in last-generation midrange cards, and the Blackwell architecture brings meaningful improvements in ray tracing performance and AI-accelerated workloads, alongside the expected DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation support. For creators using DaVinci Resolve, Blender, or Adobe Premiere, the combination of the 9800X3D’s multi-threaded CPU performance and the RTX 5070’s GPU compute is a genuinely capable production workstation, not just a desktop built around a single use case.

The 360mm AIO liquid cooler is a meaningful inclusion for a chip with the power envelope of the 9800X3D. Many pre-builts at this tier cut costs by using a 240mm AIO or even a tower air cooler, which limits sustained all-core performance during extended workloads. The 360mm radiator keeps the 9800X3D at optimal temperatures without the fans having to ramp to uncomfortable noise levels — MSI’s specification confirms no thermal throttling under heavy loads, which matters for anyone running rendering jobs or compiling large codebases alongside everything else.

The Vision ZS chassis is one of the more considered aesthetic choices in MSI’s pre-built lineup. The MAG PANO 120R case uses machined mesh panels across the front to maximize airflow into the system, which complements the liquid cooling rather than working against it. MSI Mystic Light RGB runs throughout the build and is controllable via MSI Center software. The result is a machine that looks like a premium desktop without the more aggressive styling that some buyers want to avoid.

The 2TB NVMe SSD is the right storage allocation for a machine at this price. Modern AAA titles regularly exceed 100GB each, and 2TB gives you room for a full game library without immediate juggling. Wi-Fi 6E covers fast wireless on the less-congested 6GHz band, and USB Type-C on the front panel handles fast data transfer and peripheral connectivity without reaching around the back.

Overall, the MSI Vision ZS puts AMD’s current top-performing desktop processor alongside a class-leading GPU in a package that’s easy to recommend for buyers who want maximum performance without the time investment of a self-build.

Also consider

This is the pre-built for someone who wants to sit down and start the same day it arrives, without spending a weekend sourcing parts.

My dad needed a new big-screen TV — this Prime Day deal was my top recommendation and saved him $500

My parents just moved into their new home, and my dad asked me for a recommendation for a new big-screen TV. I told him his timing is perfect, as Amazon Prime Day is happening this week, which means big discounts on premium TVs from rival retailers like Best Buy

He wanted to splurge for an OLED TV. After doing his own research (how dare he, when I work for TechRadar) he asked if he should get our best-rated TV, LG's 77-inch C5 OLED TV.

While it is a stunning TV, I suggested he buy LG's budget OLED display, the 77-inch B5, which is highly thought of (ranked in our best-rated TV guide) and on sale at Best Buy for a record-low price of $1,399.99 (originally $2,999.99)

That's a whopping $500 less than the 77-inch LG C5 (on sale for $1,999.99), and it packs most of the same features, with an excellent picture quality and an easy-to-use smart platform - something that is important to my dad.

My top Prime Day recommendation for a big-screen OLED TV

The LG B5 is this year's best budget OLED TV, and Best Buy has a massive 53% discount on the 77-inch model - making it an easy recommendation. Released last year, the LG B5 was awarded four and a half stars in our review and delivers an exceptional picture with brilliant colors and sharp contrast. You also get excellent gaming features, thanks to the four HDMI 2.1 ports and new AI tools, including AI Search, AI Concierge, and an improved AI Chatbot.

I switched to Logitech’s ergonomic keyboard and mouse to minimize wrist strain, and I won’t ever go back to conventional desk accessories

I’m not ashamed to admit that I have absolutely terrible desk posture — and I know I’m not alone in hunching over my keyboard and mouse like an old man at the steering wheel.

The global workforce stands at around 3.7 billion people, and as much as 20% of that total are employed in desk-based jobs. In a recent survey of over 5,000 desk workers, 56% of respondents said they finish their workday experiencing pain or discomfort, and if we apply that figure to the entire planet, as many as 400 million people would say the same thing. Yikes.

Thankfully, there are several ways to alleviate desk-based pain, and while I’d recommend checking out our guides to the best office chairs and best standing desks if you’re struggling with neck and back discomfort, I can personally vouch for two inexpensive products that have genuinely improved my wrist pain: the Logitech Lift mouse and Wave Keys keyboard.

I’d originally planned to write about these two accessories, which I started using in May, in July (so I could say I’d tested them for a full two months), but I’m jumping the gun here because both are currently on sale for Amazon Prime Day.

In the US, the Logitech Lift is now just $56.99 (was $79.99), while the Logitech Wave Keys is $54.13 (was $69.99). In the UK, the Logitech Lift is now £45.99 (was £69.99), while the Logitech Wave Keys is just £51.99 (was £69.99). Take it from me: these are small prices to pay for accessories you will use almost every day.

Let’s start with the Lift mouse. I didn’t have a problem with traditional mice for the best part of 20 years, but at the beginning of 2026, I began to notice aching pain in my elbow and wrist after using my mouse for only a few hours. A quick Google search revealed that palm-down mice force our forearms into a twisted, unnatural position, which can lead to repetitive strain injuries (RSIs), as well as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome.

I definitely have a case of the latter — I’m always resting my elbow on the arm of my chair, compressing my ulnar nerve in the process — but I sought to avoid the constant torsion of my forearm by switching to a vertical mouse, hoping that this was the cause of at least some of my wrist pain.

Vertical mice like the Logitech Lift neutralize wrist and forearm alignment, putting your hand at a 57-degree angle and in what Logitech calls a “natural handshake position.” There’s definitely a learning curve to get used to this new position. Initially, I found myself subconsciously gripping the Lift in a palm-down orientation (yes, like a normal mouse), and I struggled with a perceived lack of clicker accuracy. I also worried that it was a little too small for my hands (Logitech recommends the Lift for “small to medium hands”).

But once I learned to move with my forearm, and not bend my wrist side-to-side, the Lift became objectively more comfortable to use than my regular mouse. I’m not going to sit here and say it’s eliminated all my wrist pain — again, I still (stupidly) rest my elbow on the arm of my chair, which messes with my ulnar nerve — but I’m definitely able to work for longer periods before needing to pull up a two-minute wrist stretch routine on YouTube.

The Logitech Pop Icon Keys and Logitech Wave keys on a wooden table

The Logitech Wave Keys keyboard is the perfect companion to the Lift mouse. It’s essentially a keyboard with a raised section (a ‘wave’) above the space bar and a width-spanning cushion for your wrists.

The idea is the same: the Wave’s design places your hands and forearms in a more natural typing position, and you can rest your wrists on a surface that’s much more comfortable than a hard desk. There’s also almost no learning curve with this accessory, since the change versus a normal keyboard is more subtle, but as such, I’d say it’s not as crucial a purchase as the Lift (so if you’re choosing between the two, go for the mouse).

Comfort aside, the Wave keyboard is genuinely satisfying to use. The keys have a nice level of feedback to them, and a nostalgic typewriter-style sound, but the keyboard as a whole is still very much built for modern wants and needs: the function keys, for instance, are customizable, and you can even create shortcuts for repetitive actions.

In other words, you can tweak the Wave keyboard to your specific working habits, and if you pair it with the Lift mouse, you’ll be working faster and more comfortably.

As a reminder, both products are on sale now in the US and UK for Prime members, and Amazon’s Prime Day sale ends at midnight on Friday, June 29, so you’ll need to move fast if you’re keen to add either to your basket. Happy shopping!
